TRANSLink Intermodal Facility – Project Update
The TRANSLink Intermodal Facility (TIF) is a proposed development in the TRANSLink Industrial Estate, aiming to integrate rail, road, and air freight for more efficient logistics and improved access to interstate and overseas markets—especially for perishable goods. The project is a partnership between the Northern Tasmania Development Corporation (NTDC) and Northern Midlands Council.

Feasibility Study & Business Case
NTDC has engaged Cushman & Wakefield to conduct a feasibility study and develop a business case. This work will:

-Assess the viability of a new freight terminal
-Evaluate potential site locations
-Explore commercial arrangements and operating models
-Undertake economic, financial, and risk assessments
-Engage with market participants
-Outline governance and funding pathways

Investment Logic Mapping
Cushman & Wakefield are facilitating an Investment Logic Map (ILM) process, involving workshops to define the problem, explore benefits, and determine solutions. The first workshop was held in October 2025 with representatives from local government and industry.

Stakeholder Engagement
Extensive engagement is underway, including workshops and briefings with government, industry, and existing tenants. This collaborative approach is shaping the project scope and ensuring the facility will deliver long-term economic and social benefits.

Strategic Briefing
A strategic briefing in December 2025, led by Luke Crawford (Head of Logistics and Industrial Research), provided insights into Tasmania’s logistics sector and shared learnings from other intermodal facilities, such as Moorebank in NSW.
Next Steps & FAQs

-The preferred site for the facility will be identified by early 2026.
