Choose the Scenic Route Photography Competition

The Northern Midlands Council launched the Choose the Scenic Route photography competition as part of its ongoing commitment to celebrate the region’s natural beauty, heritage, and vibrant communities. The competition invited photographers of all ages to capture what makes the Northern Midlands unique—encouraging creativity while promoting sustainable tourism and local pride.

Participation

  • Entries received: Over 140 photographs
  • Categories:
    • Open Category – 18 years and over
    • Junior Division – Under 18 years
  • Entry period: 1 July – 30 September 2025
  • Theme: Choose the Scenic Route 

Judging Process

On Friday, 17 October 2025, three judges convened to review all submissions. The judging panel included:

  • Rod Oliver – President, Northern Tasmania Camera Club
  • Scott Bennett – Professional Photographer
  • Tracey Mallett – CEO, Visit Northern Tasmania

Judges assessed entries based on:

  • Composition and eyelines
  • Lighting and colour
  • Sharpness and technical quality
  • Connection to the theme

The panel noted the exceptional standard of entries, making the selection process highly competitive. After careful and long deliberation, one winner was chosen for each category: Open and Junior.

Exhibition & People’s Choice Award

To showcase the creativity and talent of participants, the Council will host an exhibition of the  25 finalists’ works:

  • Venue: Campbell Town Recreation Ground
  • Date: Saturday 10 January – Tuesday 27 January 2026
  • Feature: Community voting for the People’s Choice Award

This exhibition provides an opportunity for residents and visitors to engage with the stunning imagery and celebrate the Northern Midlands through the eyes of its photographers.

Winner Announcement

The winners of the Open and Junior categories will be officially presented their prizes during the Australia Day on Monday, 26 January 2026.
