Campbell Town Streetscape Works Moving Forward

Mayor Mary Knowles OAM has welcomed the commencement of Stage 2 of the Campbell Town Streetscape Development, describing it as another important step in Council's long-term vision to enhance safety, accessibility and amenity in the town centre.

The Stage 2 project extends to the intersection of High and King Streets adjacent to the Campbell Town IGA, Campbell Town Hotel, Harmony on High, and 117 High Street, and includes upgrades designed to improve pedestrian safety, accessibility and the overall visitor experience in that area.

Council has worked hard over recent years to secure the Australian Government's Priority Community Infrastructure Program funding and develop a streetscape plan that improves the appearance, additional side street parking, functionality and safety of Campbell Town's main street,

Like many infrastructure projects across Australia, rising construction costs have presented challenges. Following the tender process, Council carefully considered its options and determined that progressing these priority works within the current grant funding timeline was the most responsible course of action.

Mayor Knowles said, “while not every desired improvement could be delivered immediately, Council remained committed to pursuing further stages and enhancements to complete works needed to the Esplanade”.

“We understand there is strong community interest in seeing all elements of the streetscape vision completed. Council is pleased to be able to continue progressing this important project.  The current works will build on the significant investment already made in Campbell Town” she said.

Council will continue to keep the community and stakeholders informed as the project progresses.
