Council Purchases New Home for Heritage Hub at Campbell Town

Northern Midlands Council is pleased to announce the purchase of 81 High Street, Campbell Town, securing a permanent home for some of the town’s most important heritage and tourism attractions, including a Visitor Information Centre on the Heritage Highway, the Campbell Town Museum, a Community Hub and the Convict Brick Trail.

Located in the heart of Campbell Town, the property will provide a welcoming and accessible space to showcase the region’s rich history, support the work of local volunteers and enhance the experience of visitors and residents alike. The new facility will also strengthen opportunities to promote and expand the Convict Brick Trail, one of Tasmania’s most significant heritage attractions.

Mayor Mary Knowles said the purchase reflects Council’s commitment to preserving local history while investing in the future of the town.

"This is an exciting milestone for Campbell Town and the wider Northern Midlands. By securing a permanent home for these important community and tourism assets, we are protecting our heritage, supporting our volunteers and creating an even stronger visitor experience for future generations on the Heritage Highway."

The acquisition marks an important step in developing a vibrant heritage visitor destination, celebrates Campbell Town’s unique story, and contributes to the economic and social vitality of the region.
