Sheepwash Creek Flood Mitigation – Project Update
Northern Midlands Council is progressing a series of major flood‑mitigation upgrades along Sheepwash Creek in West Perth. These works are jointly funded by Council and the Commonwealth Government through the Disaster Ready Fund and aim to reduce flood risk to properties adjacent to the creek.
Phillip Street – Works Commencing 16 February 2026
Construction on Phillip Street will begin on 16 February 2026 and continue through to early April. This stage involves upgrading the culverts under the roadway to improve stormwater capacity.
- Phillip Street will be closed for extended periods during construction.
- Adjacent Council land will be used as a temporary site compound and will be fenced for safety.
Once the Phillip Street works are completed, the project team will move directly to Edward Street, where similar culvert upgrades will require temporary road closures. Further details and timing will be provided closer to commencement.
Drummond Street Bridge – Project Status
The upgrade of the Drummond Street bridge has experienced delays due to unforeseen interactions with a TasWater main, which required additional investigation and coordination before works could continue. As a result, activity on site has been limited since Christmas.
Construction is scheduled to recommence over the next week, with all remaining works — including the final sealing of the bridge — expected to be completed by the end of March.
Thank You for Your Patience
Council acknowledges that these road closures and delays may cause inconvenience, and we thank residents for their understanding as we undertake these important flood‑mitigation improvements for the community.
