Northern Midlands Council Meeting Updates - January 20, 2025

Community Projects and Local Committee Updates:

Evandale:

  • The Council acknowledged the Pioneer Park Master Plan, agreeing to ensure current activities align with the plan.
  • Consideration will be given to heritage-sensitive locations and antique-style designs for future bicycle racks.
  • The Council’s planning department will consult with developers and the Tasmanian Heritage Council on heritage tunnel and watercourse matters.

Longford:

  • The Council will investigate and seek clarification from the Department of State Growth into noise, vibrations and heritage building impact from 24-hour access by A-Doubles and B-Doubles on Illawarra and Longford roads.
  • Plans to improve safety at Woolmers Lane and Brickendon Street pending a traffic engineer’s report.

Ross:

  • Continued consultation on EV charging station design and maintaining uniform concrete colours.
  • Supported a memorial request for the Doomed Battalion 2/40 AIF, subject to RSL approval.

Devon Hills/Loop Road:

  • Council will investigate the installation of speed humps to reduce excessive speeding.
  • That Council will review the existing shared path markings and signage of the Devon Hills Walk/ Bikeway and seek advice from a traffic engineer to develop a plan to carry out upgrade works as required.

Notable Developments:

  • Changing Places Facilities Program: Council approved nominating Campbell Town for a Changing Places Facility and allocated funds for 2025-2027 if the nomination is approved.
  • Pioneer Park Master Plan: Council accepted the finalised plan and will seek funding for its implementation.
  • Perth Train Park: Maintenance will continue, with plans to explore historical interpretation content for budget deliberations in 2025/2026.

Policy Reviews and Approvals:

The Council endorsed updates to key policies, including the Information Technology Security Policy, Festivals, Events and Promotions Policy, and reviewed the Information and Communication Technology Resources and Electronic Communications Acceptable Use Policy.

Infrastructure and Maintenance:

  • Council endorsed the continued maintenance of the Perth Cemetery.
  • Ongoing monitoring of passenger usage at Devon Hills Road bus stop, with potential infrastructure improvements in partnership with TassieLink. In the event that TassieLink declines, the Council will install a bus stop sign and seat and carry out additional sealing works on the western side of the Devon Hills Road.

These decisions reflect Council’s ongoing commitment to the Strategic Plan 2021 - 2027 by fostering community engagement, preserving heritage, and enhancing infrastructure for the benefit of Northern Midlands residents.
