Council Farewells General Manager Des Jennings After 12 Years of Service

Posted on July 03, 2026

Northern Midlands Mayor Mary Knowles has advised that General Manager Des Jennings has resigned, concluding in the role on 1 July 2026.

Des Jennings commenced with Northern Midlands Council in August 2014, following several years at Break O’Day Council. Mayor Knowles said it has been a privilege to work with Mr Jennings over the past 12 years, noting that his departure is a significant loss for the community, the region, and state local government organisations that have benefited from his leadership and stability, as well as for staff and volunteers whom he has served with strong commitment and professionalism throughout his tenure.

Mayor Knowles said, "Des’s collaborative approach to management and commitment to staff wellbeing continues to shape the way Council works together to serve our community."

She thanked Des Jennings for his vision in master planning key community infrastructure and wellbeing projects, ensuring they were ready to access grant funding as opportunities arose. These include the Sheepwash Creek Flood Mitigation Project in Perth to reduce residential flood risk; the revitalisation of the Perth and Campbell Town Main Streetscapes; upgrades to recreation ground facilities, open spaces, and community buildings; the introduction of shared pathways from Perth to the Airport; and securing significant funding for a feasibility study and potentially some enabling infrastructure for a TransLink Intermodal facility.

We wish Des, his wife Lyn, and their family the very best for the future and thank them wholeheartedly for their commitment and leadership to our Council and community.
