Who Inspires You? Nominations Now Open for the Northern Midlands Australia Day 2026 Awards

Do you know someone who makes our community stronger, kinder, and more connected? The Northern Midlands Council is calling on residents to help shine a light on the region’s unsung heroes, with nominations now open for the Australia Day 2026 Awards and Volunteer Recognition Awards.

This year’s Australia Day celebrations will be held at the Campbell Town Recreation Ground, where Council will present three prestigious honours:

  • Citizen of the Year 2025 – recognising a resident who has made a significant contribution to the Northern Midlands and serves as a role model for others.
  • Young Citizen of the Year 2025– celebrating a young person whose energy, leadership, and dedication have made a positive difference.
  • Community Event of the Year 2025 – awarded to an event that has brought people together and showcased the Northern Midlands in a positive light.

Council will also present its Volunteer Recognition Awards, acknowledging the dedication of individuals who have made a significant, unpaid contribution to a community group or organisation. Volunteer recognition was formally included in the Australia Day celebrations in 2016 and has since become a highlight of the day.

The Australia Day event rotates annually between Avoca, Cressy, Longford, Perth, Campbell Town, Evandale, and Ross – giving each community the opportunity to host.

Nominations are now open and can be found on the Northern Midlands Council website.
