About the role

This role provides a strong opportunity for an experienced GIS professional to contribute to the management, analysis and improvement of Council’s spatial and asset information. The position focuses on maintaining high‑quality GIS datasets, undertaking spatial analysis, and producing mapping and reporting outputs that support infrastructure planning, asset management and operational activities across Council.

Working closely with internal stakeholders, the role plays a key part in ensuring spatial and asset data is accurate, current and effectively used to inform decision‑making.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Maintain and update Council’s GIS and asset databases, ensuring spatial and attribute data accuracy and integrity.
  • Capture, validate and manage spatial and asset data from a range of sources, including field collection and As Constructed information.
  • Undertake spatial analysis to support asset management, infrastructure planning and operational requirements.
  • Provide GIS mapping, analysis and advice to internal stakeholders to support planning, reporting and service delivery.
  • Prepare maps, plans and spatial visualisations to clearly communicate information to a range of audiences.
  • Support asset data quality initiatives, including data cleansing, validation and workflow improvements.
  • Undertake field data collection and verification using GPS or handheld devices to maintain accurate asset information.
  • Assist with maintaining the accuracy of Council’s asset register, including updating condition and attribute data.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of GIS and asset data processes and documentation.

About you

You are an experienced GIS practitioner who is organised, detail‑focused and comfortable working with complex spatial datasets. You can work with minimal supervision, manage competing priorities, and communicate technical information clearly to non‑technical stakeholders. You enjoy working collaboratively and contributing to improved data quality and systems.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in GIS, Spatial Sciences, Geography, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in a GIS or spatial role, preferably within a local government or asset‑focused environment.
  • Proven experience managing and maintaining GIS and asset datasets, with a strong focus on data quality and spatial accuracy.
  • Practical experience using GIS software such as ESRI ArcGIS and/or IntraMaps for data capture, analysis and mapping.
  • Sound understanding of asset management data and systems, including how spatial data supports asset registers and planning.
  • Experience interpreting plans, drawings or documentation and validating against spatial data.
  • Experience with field data collection using GPS or handheld survey equipment (e.g. Trimble).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to work across corporate information systems.
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Well‑developed time management, organisational and stakeholder engagement skills.
