About the role
The Engineering Officer ensures that engineering works and services meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and community expectations, contributing to the safety, functionality, and sustainability of the municipality’s infrastructure network.
The role also involves managing spatial data, performing spatial analysis, and providing GIS-based insights to support the planning, design, and implementation of engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities of the role include:
Conduct road inspections to ensure safety and compliance with standards.
Prepare and review traffic management plans.
Assist in the assessment and supervision of private subdivisions.
Undertake field collection and validation of asset data to improve the accuracy of Council’s asset information.
Support the Works Manager with technical and engineering duties related to roads and civil infrastructure.
Maintain and update asset data in Council’s GIS and corporate systems.
Assist in the preparation of tenders and contract documentation for Council infrastructure projects.
Provide input into Council reports and project investigations.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will be reliable, self-motivated, have excellent communication skills, be able to manage your time and work priorities, and be proactive and show initiative.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
Advanced Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
3-5 years experience with civil infrastructure maintenance and construction projects
Current driver’s licence.
Strong knowledge of civil engineering construction, particularly in roadworks.
Experience with engineering software, drafting, and GIS systems.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
High attention to detail and spatial accuracy.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and cross-validate with spatial data.
Experience with basic survey equipment (e.g., Trimble handheld devices).
Knowledge/experience with ESRI ArcGIS and/or IntraMaps, including the ability to capture and manipulate spatial data.
Demonstrated experience in the use of civil design packages such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D drafting software
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs and the ability to develop proficiency with Council’s corporate systems.

Terms and conditions of employment, including salary will be negotiated with the successful applicant and in accordance with the Northern Midlands Council Enterprise Agreement.
