July 2026 Council Meeting Snapshot
Northern Midlands Council considered a range of planning, infrastructure, governance and community matters at its Ordinary Meeting on 20 July 2026. Key decisions included:
Campbell Town Streetscape Project Progresses
Council approved Stage 2 of the Campbell Town Streetscape Project, covering High Street between 114 High Street and Red Bridge, together with minor works in King Street, Queen Street and the Esplanade. The project approval includes conditions to protect heritage buildings and ensure compliance with relevant infrastructure requirements.
Planning Amendments Endorsed
Council endorsed two planning scheme amendments:
- Draft Amendment 27-2026, updating building material requirements within the TRANSlink Specific Area Plan.
- Draft Amendment 28-2026, proposing the rezoning of 69 Cromwell Street from Light Industrial to General Residential.
Both amendments will now progress through the statutory planning process.
District Committee Appointments Confirmed
Council confirmed appointments to the Cressy, Campbell Town, Evandale, Longford and Ross District Committees for the new term, supporting local community input into Council initiatives and priorities.
Policy Reviews Completed
Council completed reviews of the Communications Policy, Use of Longford Logo Policy, Dispute Resolution for Elected Members Policy, and Local Government Caretaker Period Policy. The amendments were primarily administrative and ensure the policies remain current and aligned with legislative requirements.
Building and Planning Matters
Council noted the monthly Development Services Report, endorsed a representation regarding proposed planning provisions for secondary residences, and approved amendments to the Building and Plumbing Fees and Charges Schedule.
Perth Mill Road Speed Reduction Supported
Council supported a proposal to reduce the speed limit on Perth Mill Road to 80 km/h and authorised the Acting General Manager to provide the required endorsement to the Transport Commission.
Other Decisions
Council accepted the Determination Report under the Local Government Act 1993, received committee minutes and information reports, and resolved to commence the recruitment process for a new General Manager.
