Flinders Quartet has garnered a reputation as one of Australia’s most loved chamber music ensembles. A quartet for the 21st century and a highly respected force in Australian chamber music, their musical skill and maturity have flourished over more than two decades of performing together.
Flinders Quartet brings their optimistic, sunny concert program of Dvořák, Cawrse, and Beach to Longford for a one-off performance at 3pm, 20 May 2023.
Even when music doesn’t have a specific narrative, it tells a story. Dvořák actively encouraged American composers to use Native American culture, which inspired Amy Beach to write her string quartet based on Inuit tunes. Flinders Quartet followed the musical trail to Caroline Shaw, who inspired Australia’s own Anne Cawrse to write ‘in spaces between’ – a story of finding the space to create while life pulls in multiple directions.
AMY BEACH String Quartet, Op. 89
ANNE CAWRSE “in spaces between”
ANTONÍN DVOŘÁK String Quartet No. 13 in G major, Op.106
Concert Program • 60 mins, no interval
