Parks & Reserves Trainee

The Northern Midlands Council is seeking applications from motivated, reliable and hardworking candidates with an interest in outdoor work, horticulture and caring for community spaces to join our Parks & Reserves team as a Trainee.
This is a full-time position working 76 hours over a 9-day fortnight. It is offered as a fixed-term contract for the duration of the registered traineeship (3 years). The role will be based at Council’s depot in Longford and works across Council’s parks, reserves and open spaces throughout the municipality.

About the role
As a Parks & Reserves Trainee, you will gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced staff while completing a nationally recognised Certificate III in Horticulture (AHC30722) through TasTAFE.
Throughout the traineeship you will develop practical skills and knowledge in areas such as:
Maintenance of parks, reserves and public open spaces
Planting, pruning and general horticultural works
Operation and maintenance of tools and equipment
Workplace health and safety practices
Teamwork and customer-focused service delivery

To be successful in this role, you will:
Be hardworking, reliable and physically fit
Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions
Be willing and able to commit to completing a 3-year traineeship
Hold a current driver’s licence
Be eligible to undertake an Australian traineeship (See below for further information)
Be keen to learn, follow instructions and work as part of a team
No previous experience is required, as full training and support will be provided.
Pre-employment Requirements
The successful applicants will be subject to a pre-employment medical and a national police check.
Applicants wishing to undertake this traineeship who are on a visa must ensure that they hold an eligible visa class to allow them to undertake a full time traineeship for the 3 year duration of the traineeship. Details of eligible visa classes can be found at www.skills.tas.gov.au.

The salary for this role is $24.37 per hour, equating to $48,155 per annum, regardless of age or school level under the National Training Wage.
