Streetscape Works: Wellington Street, Longford
Posted on August 02, 2022
The estimated cost of Works is $8.2 million.
Stage 1 commences at the ‘Hill Street’ northern end of the main street.
Stage 1 funds available is $2 million and funded by the Federal Government.
Works include:
- Footpaths
- Plantings
- Protuberances at intersections.
The new protuberances at the intersections come out no further than the parked vehicles in the street.
The protuberances will improve safety for all users. Particularly drivers of vehicles leaving side streets will have improved visibility when entering the main street; and safety will be increased for pedestrians traversing the roads.
The road width is not affected and does not impact on other use for example heavy vehicles and cyclists.
As per the road rules, bicycle riders are permitted to use the whole lane on roads with lane markings and ride two abreast. They are also permitted to ride on footpaths and cross at pedestrian crossings.
The works have been approved by the Department of State Growth, State Roads, as the road is a state controlled road.
Council requested at its last meeting for the matter to be discussed at the Northern Midlands Bicycle Advisory Committee meeting with a further report to be provided to Council.
Council will then consider any matters raised by the Committee and additional feedback from the Department of State Growth, State Roads.
