Launceston Airport – Unpaid Ex Gratia Rates
Posted on February 08, 2016
Council, with the assistance of Senator Jonathon Duniam, will be meeting with the Honourable Darren Chester MP, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport on 15 February 2017, to discuss the ongoing dispute with the Australian Pacific Airports Corporation (Launceston Airport).
In accordance with its lease with the Commonwealth the Launceston Airport is required to pay an ex gratia rate contribution to the Northern Midlands Council. Launceston Airport consistently fails to contribute their fair share of ex gratia rates as determined by the Tasmanian State Valuer-General.
As a show of good faith, Council has agreed to remove the signage in the municipality regarding the dispute. A positive outcome from the meeting with the Minister will ensure the signage will not return.
Council is thankful that Senator Jonathon Duniam has arranged a meeting with Minister Chester. We will provide further advice on the outcome of these discussions in due course.
