Mozart's deep love for the clarinet - its tone colours, differentiated registers and singing qualities - informed his Clarinet Quintet, which remains one of the best-loved works in the chamber music repertory. It is prefaced by a brand-new work for the same combination of instruments, the Clarinet Quintet by Australian composer Carl Vine, which was co-commissioned by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and receives its Tasmanian premiere in this concert.
